چکیده

The energy loss effect in nuclear matter is another nuclear effect apart from the nuclear effects on the parton distribution as in deep inelastic scattering process. The quark energy loss can be measured best by the nuclear dependence of the high energy nuclear Drell-Yan process. By means of two typical kinds of quark energy loss parametrization and the different sets of nuclear parton distribution functions, we present a analysis of the E866 experiments on the nuclear dependence of Drell-Yan lepton pair production resulting from the bombardment of Be, Fe and W targets by 800GeV protons at Fermilab. It is found that the quark energy loss in cold nuclei is strongly dependent on the used nuclear parton distribution functions. The further prospects of using relatively low energy proton incident on nuclear targets are presented by combining the quark energy loss rate determined from a fit to the E866 nuclear-dependent ratios versus x1, with the nuclear parton distribution functions given from lA deep inelastic scattering (DIS) data. The experimental study of the relatively low energy nuclear Drell-Yan process can give valuable insight in the enengy loss of fast quark propagating a cold nuclei and help to pin down nuclear parton distributions functions.

The uncertainties due to quark energy loss on determining nuclear sea quark distribution from nuclear Drell-Yan data

By means of two different parametrizations of quark energy loss and the nuclear parton distributions determined only with lepton-nuclear deep inelastic scattering experimental data, a leading order phenomenological analysis is performed on the nuclear Drell-Yan differential cross section ratios as a function of the quark momentum fraction in the beam proton and target nuclei for E772 experiment...

High-energy hadron physics at J-PARC

The J-PARC facility is near completion and experiments will start in 2009 on nuclear and particle physics projects. In this article, the J-PARC facility is introduced, and possible projects are discussed in high-energy hadron physics by using the primary proton beam of 30−50 GeV. There are proposed experiments on charm-production and Drell-Yan processes as well as single spin asymmetries for in...

Nuclear corrections of parton distribution functions

A ′ 2 and proton-nucleus Drell-Yan cross-section ratios σ pA DY /σ pA ′ DY in order to determine optimum parton distribution functions (PDFs) in nuclei. An important point of this analysis is to show uncertainties of the distributions by the Hessian method. The results indicate that the uncertainties are large for gluon distributions in the whole x region and for antiquark distributions at x > ...

Energy Loss in Nuclear Drell-Yan Process

By means of the nuclear parton distributions which can be used to provide a good explanation for the EMC effect in the whole x range, we investigate the energy loss effect in nuclear Drell-Yan process. When the cross section of lepton pair production is considered varying with the center-of-mass energy of the nucleon-nucleon collision, we find that the nuclear Drell-Yan(DY) ratio is suppressed ...

xF dependence of the Drell-Yan transverse momentum broadening

We analyze xF dependence of the Drell-Yan transverse momentum broadening in hadron-nucleus collisions. In terms of generalized factorization theorem, we show that the xF dependence of the transverse momentum broadening, ∆〈q2 T 〉(xF ), can be calculated in perturbative QCD. We demonstrate that ∆〈q2 T 〉(xF ) is a good observable for studying the effects of initial-state multiple scattering and ex...
